Founded in 2008 by Trevyn and Julian McGowan, Southern Guild represents contemporary artists and designers from Africa and its diaspora. It aims to amplify Africa’s influence in global art and design movements. The gallery showcases a diverse range of media, including sculpture, ceramics, furniture, and photography, focusing on works that intertwine cultural heritage with innovative expression. It has participated in international fairs such as Design Miami and the London Design Biennale. Southern Guild also curates exhibitions that celebrate African narratives and craftsmanship.
